First Crush

No, not mine - unless, of course, you'd like to hear all about Ricky Schroder and every episode of Silver Spoons and how our wedding would have been played out.

I'm talking about Owen. He's a fairly shy, reserved kid so I'm surprised of his recent confession.

A little background for you - Location: After School Pick Up Room Time: Any given day in September, October, November, December, and January.

He comes strolling in, hands off his coat, backpack, lunch bag and in walks "the crush" I'd love to share her name or even a photo - because both are just too darn cute but we'll just call her "E". She runs up to him and hugs him (actually, we'll call it a full body squeeze) and he shys away and looks incredibly annoyed. I talk to him about it - how if he doesn't like it, he needs to tell her, but that it is okay if she wants to hug him or if he wants to hug her back. He tells me he doesn't like it because when she hugs him it makes him . . . wait for it . . . hungry. Insert recent six year old well visit where we're told he's underweight and we should probably put some pounds on him.

Now, let's jump to February. We're huge fans of Charlie Brown and the Peanuts in this house. The holiday movies are definite reruns and Owen has much of the dialogue memorized, including all the arghs, ugghs, and good griefs. I think the Valentine themed cartoons helped him open up about E. He even started the conversation on our daily drive home from school that ultimately ended in his confession. He asked about our house and where we (mom & dad) lived before we had him. I told him we lived in a smaller house before he and Brinn were born and then we built a bigger house when they came along. We started talking about eye color and how you get your eye color, why people have different color, etc. He stated how he wondered what color E's eyes were. I told him that she had very dark hair so she probably had dark brown eyes. He instantly told me that I was wrong because Brinn has dark eyes, but she has blond hair. Why are they so smart? It all blurted out after that - how E was "just the cutest one in his class" even more so than "T" and "H" and so on . . . He told me of his plans to make a point to look at the color of her eyes the next day at school.

Yes, he is THAT sweet. However, he ended the conversation with his plans to build a "small house."
