Not That We Need a Reason

Okay, not that we need a reason not to cook - but today we have one. Suddenly I hear popping noises and flames (not sparks) coming out of the temperature dials on the stovetop. It stops, don't smell anything - but Mike is in Rochester for a pretty large event that he has been preparing for for a long time and I don't want to disturb him. I called "non-emergency" services to avoid having sirens on our street. We were told to get out of the house and wait for emergency personnel. We live maybe 2 miles from the fire department and I could hear them coming within seconds of ending the call - two big trucks, ambulance, fire chief, police, and emergency recovery staff all running towards our house.

There is a short in our stovetop that has now caused a gas leak - everything is turned off for now.

You gain an even bigger appreciation for the service people in your community once you need them - that is for sure.

So, remember the dishwasher's fatal day a few weeks back? The "good" digital camera succumbed to salt water and possibly some sand in Ocean City, and now the stovetop. They do come in threes right? And, if you want to know what's for dinner - click on the posting title!
