Angelo's Pizza gets new name, new home
by Debbie Swartz Press & Sun-Bulletin
APALACHIN -- After 33 years in business on the corner of Main Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, Angelo's Pizza closed its doors last week but will reopen soon at a new location and with a different name, owner Debi Santacroce said. The restaurant, which offered pizza, subs and other goodies, closed after the building was sold, she said. Santacroce and her husband, John Santacroce, will reopen the business as Johnny Pies sometime during the first week of June at the renovated train station on Route 434 that houses a Subway sandwich shop. The new location will expose the business to more consumers, she said. The restaurant will likely be open seven days a week. While the move was unanticipated, it could increase the business's profitability, she said.
The new facility is an upgrade from the old location and will have a welcoming ambiance for customers, she said. "I think it's a positive thing," she said. Prior to receiving notice about the sale, Santacroce and her husband had premonitions that change was imminent, she said.
"We were getting good signs of things that were going to happen," she said. The grand opening will mean a new menu and grand-opening specials.
The business will have the same telephone number as before: 625-4688.
When customers call the number now, they get a recording describing the closing of the old location and information about the new one.
